Services for students with special needs
The Centre d'Études Collégiales à Chibougamau is sensitive to students with disabilities.1
A multidisciplinary team is available to meet the needs of this group by offering a variety of assessment and support services intended to provide them with the necessary tools to ensure their academic success.
- Psychological Assessment
- Screening for learning disabilities
- Collaboration with practitioners and technicians working in the public network: regional health and social service centres (CRSSS), intellectual disability rehabilitation centres (CRDI), school boards, and health centres
- Individualized care plan
- Psychosocial and learning support
- Awareness activities
- Support for teachers
- Support for Parents
1 A student with a documented disability or a student who is in the process of obtaining a medical diagnosis or wishes to obtain one, may request adapted services.
Student population served
To use these accommodations, the student must have a diagnosis. Here are a few examples :
- Neurological disorders such as attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADHD)
- Learning disabilities such as dyslexia and the dysorthographia
- Mental health disorders or problems such as depression, anxiety, etc.
- Hearing or visual impairments
- Physical or motor impairments
- Organic conditions such as diabetes, cancer, or other health issues
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Among others
Reasonable accommodations
Accommodations are determined based on diagnosis and the student's limitations.
- Peer note takers
- A quiet space to write exams
- Additional time for exams
- Materials in braille
- A variety of specialized equipment
- Adapted physical education. Special software
- Flexible schedule
- And others, as needed
HOW DO I APPLY?
First, make an appointment with the Adapted Services counsellor. They will help you determine your needs and put together an individualized care plan.
To be eligible for these accommodations, you must provide medical documentation or a professional assessment attesting to your disability. If you do not have either of these documents, we will assist you with the necessary steps to obtain these documents.
Given that setting up these services may take time and involve numerous steps, please inform us of your needs as soon as possible so that we can provide you with the best possible assistance.
